You are here: Home Blog New Rails Hackfest scoring system

In line with recent changes to the Rails patch submission procedure we have updated the Hackfest scoring mechanism.

Previously contributors were rewarded mainly on activity alone. In the new system contributors gain more points if their patch is:

  • Endorsed by another contributor
  • Committed by a core team member

The following diagram gives you an insight into the way things will now work: Hackfest Scoring

This approach is much fairer and rewards those who make the biggest impact.

So if you write a patch and it gets accepted into Rails itself you get maximum points. Likewise if your ticket is given the thumb-ups by other contributors you get points for it.

The new system comes in to effect tomorrow. Be sure to check out the latest charts and feel free to drop us a line with any suggestions or comments.

On a related note there is now a neat dedicated contributor section on the site. Find all about the new scoring system and much more!
